Game Rules

iOS Cards 31 is based on the classic "31" card game. The objective is to get a hand value of 31 points (or as close as possible) while avoiding having the lowest hand. Players start with 3 tokens and a "free ride." Each player takes turns drawing cards from the draw pile or discard pile, trying to improve their hand. Players can "knock" when they believe their hand is good enough, or declare "31!" if they achieve exactly 31 points. The player with the lowest hand value loses a token. The last player with tokens remaining wins the game.

Hand values are calculated by adding card values of the same suit. Ace is worth 11, face cards (King, Queen, Jack) are worth 10, and numbered cards are worth their face value. Only cards of the same suit count toward your hand total.

For detailed game rules and strategies, refer to the in-app Game Rules view accessible from the main menu.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to sign in to Game Center to play?

A: No, Game Center is completely optional. You can play the full game without signing in. Game Center only adds leaderboard and achievement features.

Q: Can I play offline?

A: Yes! The game works completely offline. You only need an internet connection if you want to view Game Center leaderboards.

Q: How do I reset my statistics?

A: Currently, statistics are stored locally on your device. To reset statistics, you would need to delete and reinstall the app. We may add a reset option in a future update.

Q: Why aren't my scores showing on the leaderboard?

A: Leaderboards track your game statistics. If scores aren't appearing, ensure you're signed in to Game Center and have completed at least one game. Some leaderboards may require specific game conditions to be met.

Q: Can I play with friends online?

A: Currently, iOS Cards 31 supports local play with AI opponents. Online multiplayer with friends is not yet available but may be added in future updates.

Q: How do I change the difficulty?

A: You can select the AI difficulty when starting a new game. The app will remember your last selected difficulty for convenience.

Q: What's the difference between difficulty levels?

A: AI opponents use different strategies and decision-making algorithms at each difficulty level. Expert AI uses advanced card memory and pattern recognition to make optimal plays, remembering more cards from the discard pile.

Q: Can I sync my statistics across devices?

A: Currently, statistics are stored locally on each device. Cross-device sync is not available, but may be added in future updates.

Q: What does "knock" mean?

A: Knocking is when you believe your hand is good enough to beat at least one other player. When you knock, all other players get one more turn, then hands are revealed and the lowest hand loses a token.

Q: What happens if I get exactly 31 points?

A: If you achieve exactly 31 points, you immediately declare "31!" and the hand ends. All other players lose a token, and you win the hand.

Troubleshooting

If you're experiencing issues with iOS Cards 31, try these solutions:

  • App Won't Launch: Ensure your device is running iOS 15.0 or later. Try restarting your device and reopening the app.
  • Game Center Not Working: Check that you're signed in to Game Center in iOS Settings. Ensure you have an internet connection if viewing leaderboards.
  • Leaderboard Errors: If leaderboards show errors, this may be because leaderboards haven't been created in App Store Connect yet. This is normal for new apps and doesn't affect gameplay.
  • Statistics Not Updating: Statistics are saved after each completed game. If statistics seem incorrect, try completing another game to refresh the data.
  • Performance Issues: Close other apps and restart your device if the app is running slowly. Ensure you have sufficient storage space available.
  • Settings Not Saving: Check that you have sufficient storage space. Settings are saved to UserDefaults, which requires available storage.
